The $3,000 buy-in six-max no-limit hold’em event at the 2019 World Series of Poker was scheduled for four days, but only needed three to crown a champion. The fast-paced tournament came to an end early Saturday morning with France’s Thomas Cazayous topping the field of 754 players.
The 24-year-old Cazayous, who now resides in London, earned $414,766 for the victory and his first career gold bracelet. This was just his fifth cash at the summer series overall, and first final table apperance. But despite his lack of experience, and a final table that included previous bracelet winners in Angel Guillen (5th) and Upeshka De Silva (3rd), Cazayous remained confident.
“If I’m honest, there was good players but I felt very, very confident,” he told WSOP reporters after the win. “I don’t want to say I think I was the best, but I felt pretty sure [of] what I had to do.”
Cazayous was quiet and stoic throughout the tournament, even when the cards didn’t fall his way. With seven players remaining, his pocket aces were cracked on a brutal runner-runner runout by Q-8, yet he was able to rebound from that hit and regain control of the final table.
In addition to the money, Cazayous also earned 1,368 Card Player Player of the Year points for his win. The POY is sponsored by Global Poker.
Other notables that made a deep run in the event included Kyle Cartwright (7th), Jeremy Menard (13th), Dimitar Danchev (21st), Adrian Mateos (22nd), Anthony Spinella (23rd), Danny Wong (24th), Amir Lehavot (25th), Ping Liu (26th), Manig Loeser (27th), Tony Miles (29th), Tom Cannuli (31st), and Griffin Benger (32nd).
Here is a look at the final table results.
